Is it possible to get off of antidepressants (with a doctor's assistance, of course)?
Here's a little background: I started experiencing depression and my therapist at the time *thought* may have been a chemical imbalance, but she was not 100% sure. My doctor then started me on Elavil 25 mg. This was a couple of years ago. I have had to have him increase it gradually to 75 mg and I have been on that amount for about a year. I am now experiencing the following negative symptoms: loss of interest in all my hobbies, wanting to sit and watch TV or read all the time and isolate, and I also let friends get to me and I don't desire to go out with my friends at all like I used to. This does not feel like depression, but rather a zombie state. I am at the point where I would like to the feel the way I did before I was on antidepressants. I am scheduled to see my doctor on July 11th. Do you think it is possible to successfully get off (gradually) and stay off of antidepressants/ (As a side note, my gyn recently said I was in early menopause at 39, so I'm thinking that if hormones play a part in this that antidepressants would not be effective per se).
